An ABSOLUTE work of love long overdue for the viewing public! It reflects your depth of research and your obvious love of “the art” of the Tonnesen Sisters…. Continue to find wonderful thing to “wow” all of us that reside in this small corner of the world!…… Rick (Ebay: illinoisadams)

I have 3 pictures, They were a supplement to the Los Angeles Sunday times. I found one of them in the slide show #2, 090, but did not find the other two. The printing says Tonnesen Sisters Copyright 1901 by Osgood Co. Chicago. I Bounght a book at a garage sale and these pictures were in side. Where can I go to find out more about the pictures, and are they worth angthing.

    Hi Donna,
What a nice surprise to find in a garage sale book! There are lots of Sunday supplement prints out there that we don’t have. If you can email them to us, we’d love to see them and even post them. I don’t know of any price guide for Tonnesen prints. I can only tell you my own personal experience which is: Depending on their condition, I have paid anywhere from $1.99 to $30 for these Sunday supplements. Good luck!

Could you tell me more about image #5 in Album #10. I have this picture! I am SO EXCITED that I found this! The paper feels like it has a cloth composition to it. Is there a title for this picture? The little girl looks so sweet and innocent. I have kept this picture around, for years, not knowing anything about the photographer.I have VERY little art/photography background, only what I received in college, and have never heard of Beatrice Tonnesen. I have LOVED reading about her and definitely enjoyed all of the albums of pictures. Today was the “do it” day to try and find out about this little girl/photographer. We are preparing for a garage sale and this was an item that my husband said I should put out to sell. I just COULDN’T part with this little girl. I hope you can help me a little more about the picture or possibly give me a title to the picture. I am so excited I can barely type!! Thank you, Marcia

    Hi Marcia,
I’m so happy that you are enjoying the website! I don’t know anything more about your print. I have never seen it published with a title. These photos sometimes appeared as art supplements in Sunday feature sections of newspapers across the country from about 1899 -1904. I do think that the child in your print resembles the child identified as Alice Gudgeon in the 1900 Chicago Tribune feature shown in Album 11, Image 1. Tonnesen was also doing colored Victorian parlor scenes at that time and may have featured the child model in your print in one or more of them. A few of them are shown in Album 11, but there many others that can be found in antique shops. Thanks for writing.

The pictures I have seem to match the lady ( mother) with the longer sleeves, with the baby and the girl with the glass ( in my pic she is reading the grand rapids paper)and yet another holding a bouquet of long stemmed flowers.

    Any idea?

    Thank you

    Angie,
Thanks for writing. We’d love to see your prints. If you will submit them, we may be able to tell you more about them and/or we can add them to the website. We always credit the owner/photographer of the images we display, unless the owner/photographer prefers otherwise. It is especially interesting that the newspaper in the picture of the girl with the glasses is the Grand Rapids paper. Maybe the newspaper that ran the picture had the option of customizing it.

I have a black and white picture of a lady looking upward and it is dated 1900 by Tonnesen Sisters. I am trying to find out something about the photograph and I also want to sell it. Gorgeous Picture of a very pretty lady. I am guessing it is not a nun as a black hood is over her head and she has very long black hair. I don’t know if it is a nun as the front is low cut with a gorgeous neckline showing.I looked at album 5 and the same picture is there I think # 19.Can you give me any backround on picture and value. It has been my Grandmothers possession for mant years.
Thanking you in advance for any reply. Thomas

    Hello,
This is such a lovely print – a bit mysterious! (I’m assuming that what you have is an original print of a photograph, not an original photograph…correct? If not, please let me know.) We don’t know anything more about the print than what we wrote in the slideshow caption. It came from one of those photos that Tonnesen sold to publishers as art supplements or “Sunday supplements” to newspapers. Often, the same print ran in several newspapers across the country. Customers saved and often framed and hung those that they found appealing. I’ve seen similar unframed, original Tonnesen prints sell from only a few dollars to around $30. Of course, if your print is framed it would probably bring more, depending on the quality and condition of the frame.

I would like to purchase a print of #24 in album #9. How may I do this and what would be the cost? Thank You.

  15. Sumneron 12 Mar 2010 at 12:54 am

Hi Denise – We are not in a position to reproduce single prints of images contained in the sight at this time. There’s too much to do, and printing a single print is so time consuming that the pricing would likely be inordinate. It is possible that in the future we may decide to reproduce selected images in our catalog. Thanks for your interest. Keep asking, and maybe we will change our mind.

  17. Loison 16 May 2010 at 1:44 pm

    Hi Karen,

Thanks for the information. The picture of this beautiful little girl is shown in our Beatrice Tonnesen Catalog on this blog. It is the fifth image in Album # 10. In another email, you told us that Margaret Hoyt was a family friend. The 1900 Census shows a Margaret Hoyt, born in November, 1894, living in Chicago with her parents, George and Mary, and brother George. I will add your information to the caption on the image in Album 10. Thanks again for writing.
